Working Together in a Christian Environment

Travaillons ensemble vers un monde chretien

St. Mary's School believes that every student has the right to be a part of our community that witnesses the truths and values of the Catholic faith, where all have the opportunity to work and learn co- operatively in a safe, positive and loving environment.

St. Mary's School acknowledges that all people are created in the image and likeness of God.

We believe that each student has the right to become the best that God made them. As such, each student will be challenged to learn and grow as responsible citizens in this increasingly complex and changing society.

This Code of Behaviour was created with the guidance and input of our school community in order to establish responsibilities for all students with the support of parents, guardians and staff.

Be a part of our violence free school.

Be sensitive to the needs of others.

Develop and display good manners.
Dress in a modest, non-offensive manner.

Use appropriate Christian language.
Take pride in personal skills and talents.

Preserve our God-given environment.
Be school ambassadors.

Give best efforts at all times. Respect the rights of self, others and property.

This Code of Behaviour will be implemented by school staff in a kind, firm and judicious manner. We entrust that the parent/guardian community will support this endeavour. If you have concerns about your child's behaviour or any related consequences, contact the teacher who dealt with your child.  If questions or concerns persist, please speak with the principal.

The consequences for good behaviour at St. Mary's School are many and varied. First and foremost is the satisfaction of knowing and doing what is right. The consequences may also include rewards such as praise, a St. Mary's SMILE, public recognition and special activities.

However, as students journey toward self-discipline and maturity, there may be occasions when they find that they are in violation of the Behaviour Code. At those times and depending upon the nature and seriousness of the violation, the staff will choose from an array of possible consequences.

These May Include:

Reminders with suggestions for improvement.
A warning regarding the consequences of continued misbehaviour.
Contact with parents or guardians.
A temporary time-out.
Isolation within the classroom setting.
Loss of privileges.
Community service at school.
Repair and/or restitution for damaged or lost property.
In-school suspension.
Formal suspension or Expulsion.

As mandated by the Ministry of Education, all violent incidences must be dealt with according to the Violence-Prevention Board Policy 1:50.

Together  we can achieve excellence at  St. Mary's School, and continue to carry the Spartan banner with great pride.
